News Archives

April 30th, 2009

I’ve transferred many posts over from the Head Shrinker. It’s surprising how much Disney Experience news was posted there. Sadly, I was unable to transfer the comments.

If you’re new to the site, check out the older posts. I think you’ll find some hidden gems there. You can browse by month, category, or perform a search.

Grizzly Flats Coach 5

April 30th, 2009

I found this video about the Grizzly Flats Coach 5, which was purchased by Ward Kimball, one of the members of Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men. Ward was the creator of Jiminy Cricket, among other popular animated characters.

Ward’s coach, along with both of his steam engines, the Emma Nevada and Chloe, can be seen up close and personal at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. I recommend visiting on a weekend or holiday since that’s when the various trains run. You might even catch one of the two Disneyland-looking engines out on the tracks!

Hauntings Around the Globe

April 22nd, 2009

Thanks to Bruno’s translations, the Escape from the Haunted Mansion board game now has Portuguese game play instructions. Bruno was VERY thorough, translating every bit of text on both the instructions and the Fortune Cards (translations coming soon). For this translation, I was able to create both Portuguese game logos and a Disney Experience logo. Neat!

—UPDATE & ERROR CORRECTION—

The Portuguese Fortune Cards are now online, along with blank Fortune Card images (English & Portuguese) for your editing pleasure.

Bruno also pointed out a flaw on one of the Fortune Cards that you should take note of. In the very last download (Game Parts #12), on the very last set of Fortune Cards (hmgame_59.pdf), the card labeled ‘Lucky Charm’ should say:

“Madame Leota gives you a powerful charm.

When you draw a Fortune Card, play this card to protect you from any penalties.

—Keep this card.—

The card has been corrected in the download, but you can simply write in the last line on your own card.

New FAQ

April 19th, 2009

Lately, there have been a few site improvements (new search, new RSS/ATOM feeds, new Site News). One feature that is in desperate need for an update is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section.

I’ve never been really very good with coming up with FAQs, so I thought I’d open it up to everyone. What questions do you think should be included with the FAQs?

Submit your FAQ questions as comments to this post so that we can all read them.

Site News in Your Email Again!

April 19th, 2009

Many have been disappointed by the Newsletter’s disappearance. But, there’s a silver lining on that gray cloud.

If you have a stand-alone email program such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etcetera, you can most likely get the Site News with your email! I’ve attached an image of what that looks like in Outlook.

If you use a Web-based email program, check with your provider to see if they allow RSS feeds and what restrictions there are (if any). Read More

Hello New News, Goodbye Old News

April 18th, 2009

Everybody say it with me in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . “Goodbye, Newsletter!”

Yes, the Disney Experience Newsletter has gone the way of the dodo. Since the move to the new server, there have been many problems. Some guests have had problems subscribing (or unsubscribing). Many often don’t get their Newsletter mailed out either because the mail program breaks in the middle of a send-out, or the messages get bounced back as undeliverable. It was a big problem, and I’m tired of messing with it.

Gift #2

April 12th, 2009

Happy Easter! As promised, here is this month’s gift. The 29 classic Mickey icons are for replacing the folder icons in the Disneyesque system icons.

The gift is actually a combination of two guest submissions. Suzanne requested new icons with matching wallpapers, and Colleen requested a new set of icons for the Ultimate Disney Computer System featuring Disney characters. Combining the two, I decided to create some icons to change up the Disneyesque icons a bit. This works perfectly, because I don’t have time to create a full set of system icons, and the classic Mickey folders were inspired by the classic Mickey wallpaper.

The icons originally started out as a full system icon set back in November, but it quickly died. So, this was the perfect opportunity to resurrect the project in some way.

What's Popping Up

April 8th, 2009

Since the papercraft issue with the Disney Interactive Media Group has yet to be resolved, I thought I’d at least release the photos of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Holiday Pop-up Card. One of the photos is in 3-D, so you can get a sense of how it will look in real life.

I am also working on this month’s gift, combining two ideas into one. Look for it within a few days.

Fan Board Update

April 3rd, 2009

It’s been far too long for a Fan Board update. I believe the last one was in mid-January. Check out some nifty models by guests.
