I absolutely love my Disney Villainous<\/a> games! So much so, that I’ve been exploring more ways to store and protect my game contents.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of solutions out there, but I think I’ve settled on a brand that ticks all of the right boxes for my needs. Maybe they’ll be right for you, too. The brand is called Gamegeni<\/em>c.<\/p>\n

Protective Card Sleeves<\/h2>\n

I looked into card sleeves to keep my cards protected. It sounds crazy, I know, but a lot of hardcore board game owners do it.<\/p>\n

I recently saw a review of a new set of card sleeves by Gamegenic<\/em><\/a>, and I thought I’d try them. The villain decks contain 45 cards, so I bought a single pack of standard card game sleeves (Color Code: Gray). They come in a matte or clear finish\u2014I chose the matte for the reduction of harsh glare.<\/p>\n

The sleeves use the same color coding system as the popular Fantasy Flight Games<\/em> brand of sleeves, and they add new card sizes. But, they are reported to fit the cards much better, which was one of the selling points that interested me. Sure enough, they fit the cards nearly perfectly.<\/p>\n

\"Sleeved\/Non-Sleeved<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Card<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the things that I quickly discovered was that these sleeves make the cards very slick when they come into contact with each other. There were several times when I wasn’t holding the deck well enough, and cards just “jumped” from my hand. Of course, I tend to handle everything with a light touch, so that experience may only apply to me. Still, the slickness was beneficial during gameplay.<\/p>\n

I found the cards SO much easier to grab from the deck, and a pleasure to hold in my hand. And shuffling? Oh, the sweet, sweet shuffling! My nephew only knows how to do side shuffling, which tends to peel and tear the edges of the cards (yet another reason to protect my cards). Side shuffling is now a breeze; the cards slide between each other like butter. In fact, the cards can simply be pushed together with nearly no effort, making shuffling faster. Riffle shuffles are easy, too.<\/p>\n

Although the matte finish is advertised as non-glare, it simply isn’t true. The glare is still there, but it isn’t anywhere near as harsh as on the clear sleeves; the glare is soft, light, and easy on the eyes.<\/p>\n

\"Sleeved\/Non-Sleeved<\/a><\/p>\n

One slight downside to the matte finish is that it does slightly dull the color of the cards. That’s a shame since one of the key features of Disney Villainous is the wonderful artwork. But, it is a very minor gripe. During gameplay, I found that I didn’t focus on the slightly dulled artwork; the cards still looked wonderful, and they were easy to read.<\/p>\n

\"Sleeved\/Non-Sleeved<\/a><\/p>\n

Overall, I love the Gamegenic<\/em> card sleeves! I bought over a dozen more 50-count packs (there are now 100-count & 200-count packs) to protect the rest of the villain decks. But, with the added thickness and dimensions, the cards no longer fit within the deck organizer<\/a> that I designed.<\/p>\n

Deck Box<\/h2>\n

After looking at deck boxes\u2014literally boxes that hold card decks\u2014I found that the Gamegenic<\/em> Dungeon box<\/a> was perfect for me.<\/p>\n

The large box is covered with a suede-like material, and it consists of two pieces: the box and the lid. The lid is held on with many strong magnets on each side, several of which actually sit\/lock within recesses. This makes the lid strong and unlikely to fall off if the box is dropped or picked up incorrectly. It’s a really nice feature!<\/p>\n

The lid can also be secured to the underside of the box, the magnets still lining up perfectly.<\/p>\n

\"Gamegenic<\/a><\/p>\n

Inside, the box is divided into two long channels. I use one side to fit all 15 villain decks (sleeved), and the other side (for now) holds the player pawns and three instruction booklets from the expansion sets.<\/p>\n

The channels are wide enough to hold cards either vertically or horizontally . . . well, only if they are not sleeved. With the sleeves, the cards cannot lie horizontally. But, that’s not a deal-breaker.<\/p>\n

Verdict<\/h2>\n

So far, I love the Gamegenic<\/em> sleeves and deck box. They make a lot of other deck boxes and card sleeves<\/a>, but these two just suited me perfectly.<\/p>\n\r\n
