The Art Corner: Banner Advertising

 The Disney Experience  |  February 28, 2019

One way to get people’s attention is to use banner ads. We used a lot of them in our early years to draw attention to different areas of the site as well as inform guests of both current and upcoming events.

Website Areas

Advertising for the different areas of the website was daunting. Each area had its own logo—which often changed—and we sometimes took it upon ourselves to “improve” names. “Search” was modified to “Quick Search” to imply speed and reliability. And, icons were labeled “Toon Icons.” We just couldn’t leave well enough alone, and it created a lot of work for us.

Contests & Events

Contests were a common occurrence, although they usually centered around choosing a theme for upcoming icon sets.

Sometimes, we would advertise the upcoming icon themes, like Famous Felines. Or, we would give a sneak peek of the Haunted Experience, which was originally an animated Flash site.

Other Websites

A special set of Haunted Mansion icons and animated mouse cursors were created for DoomBuggies.com, which can still be downloaded.
