New Style

You may notice more than a few changes to the site design. That’s because it was completely rebuilt with CSS. It takes some doing to set everything up, making sure things align just right, and fixing clashing styles, but it makes things a whole lot easier to manage in the long run.

CSS also uses a lot less code, improving load times and improving search engine ranks . . . or so the theory goes. While I have been using CSS for the past year or so (I know, I’m more than a little late to the game), it only formatted text, and that was sloppy at best.

CSS: The Missing Manual really helped. It taught how and why CSS works; it gave tons of online sources for software, code, templates; it explains why doctypes are super important; and it even dove extensively into the quirks and extreme bugginess of Internet Explorer. My love of Firefox has grown by leaps and bounds after reading the horrors of IE!
